This session, hosted by the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture, MASS Design Group, and the Hutchins Center, delves into the intersection of community violence, public safety, and design. Drawing on the experiences and impact of the Gun Violence Memorial Project, which has been on display in Boston since the end of August, this conversation examines how we can redirect public attention to gun violence in ways that genuinely honor community mourning, avoiding exploitation, inspiring meaningful change.

The Gun Violence Memorial Project: Opening Celebration at Boston City Hall

Join us for the opening celebration of The Gun Violence Memorial Project in Boston on Tuesday, September 17th, 6-7:30 pm. The evening will feature speakers from Purpose Over Pain, MASS Design Group, the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, and the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture.

We invited all families to join us in Washington D.C. on March 4, 2023 for the closeout ceremony of the exhibit at the National Building Museum. Members of the Purpose Over Pain group traveled from Chicago to D.C. together for a ceremony to honor our loved ones honored in the memorial.
